ISLAMABAD: Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has opened the first-ever Overseas Pakistanis Convention in Islamabad, emphasizing the potential introduction of dual nationals into the Parliament. The convention aims to address the challenges faced by the diaspora and explore solutions.

In his address, Ayaz Sadiq highlighted ongoing discussions regarding reserved National Assembly seats for overseas Pakistanis. The convention serves as a platform to listen to the diaspora’s concerns and seek resolutions.

Sadiq also suggested appointing overseas Pakistanis with high remittances as Goodwill Ambassadors. Additionally, he proposed eliminating the necessity for physical appearances at embassies and establishing a joint working group comprising NADRA, OPF, the Foreign Office, and the Ministry of Finance to facilitate paperless processes.

Chairman Overseas Pakistanis Foundation Syed Qamar Raza announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would unveil a package for the diaspora during the convention. Raza assured that proposals from overseas Pakistanis would be implemented to address their issues.

The convention’s opening session is taking place at the Jinnah Convention Centre, attended by Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Salik Hussain, and other federal cabinet members.

Senior diplomats, including Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Malaysia and ambassadors to Saudi Arabia and Italy, addressed the attendees. They shared insights on enhancing facilities for those visiting or investing in Pakistan.
