Lahore: In a significant development under the Punjab government’s ‘She Thread’ programme, 1,150 rural women have completed their textile training and secured employment in the sector. This initiative is designed to equip women with market-oriented skills and boost employment opportunities in the textile industry.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has set an ambitious target to train 2,500 rural women by June next year. The programme offers trainees a monthly stipend of Rs15,000 during the training period, which is conducted at Shahkam Industries on Multan Road. The training involves a comprehensive three-month course, combining classroom instruction and hands-on experience, to prepare participants for roles as industrial sewing machine operators and apparel supervisors.
Eligibility for the programme requires women to be aged between 18 and 45, hold a Punjab domicile, and possess at least a matriculation qualification. Registration is currently open for women from rural areas of Lahore, with candidates required to submit their national identity cards and domicile certificates at Shahkam Industries. Following verification, selected candidates must also provide an affidavit before admission.
The initiative underscores the province’s commitment to providing rural women with the skills necessary for gainful employment in the textile sector. Information regarding registration and eligibility can be accessed through assistant commissioners, union council secretaries, and relevant district offices.
