Miami: Third seed Taylor Fritz emerged as the sole American man in the Miami Open after his victory over Canada’s Denis Shapovalov, winning with scores of 7-5 and 6-3. Fritz delivered nine aces while committing just one double fault, compared to Shapovalov’s six. The match concluded in an hour and 21 minutes.
Fritz’s win sets up a round of 16 encounters with Adam Walton, a tournament lucky loser. Walton progressed after a hard-fought victory over Coleman Wong Chak Lam of Taiwan, winning 7-6, 4-6, 6-4.
Top-seeded Alexander Zverev also made his way to the round of 16. The German secured his spot by defeating Australia’s Jordan Thompson with scores of 7-5 and 6-4.
Additionally, Czech players Jakub Mensik and Tomas Machac both recorded victories, continuing their progress in the tournament.
