Islamabad: The National Productivity Organization (NPO), in partnership with the Asian Productivity Organization (APO) and the Salt Manufacturing Association of Pakistan (SMAP), hosted a workshop on “Safe and Productive Mining” in Islamabad. The two-day event, held on April 14-15, 2025, focused on modernizing the salt mining industry in Pakistan through education on advanced mining techniques, processing, branding, and export strategies.
The workshop featured Asad Salam Mahni, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Industries and Productive Division, as the chief guest. Mahni commended the organizers and participants for their contributions and highlighted the importance of the discussions held during the event. He emphasized the ministry’s commitment to enhancing the productivity and global competitiveness of industry stakeholders.
Ismail Suttar, Founder Chairman of SMAP, stressed the significance of such initiatives for the local mining community. He pointed out ongoing efforts to improve extraction methods and transform mineral resources into value-added products, aiming to expand export opportunities.
The workshop was attended by approximately 50-60 participants from the salt and mining sector. The event concluded with a call for attendees to share their newfound knowledge and insights within their networks, fostering broader industry improvements.
