Widespread Protests in Jammu and Kashmir Following Blasphemous Remarks by Hindu Priest

Jammu: Tensions have flared across Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir in response to blasphemous comments made by Hindu priest Yati Narsinghanand. Large-scale protests demanding severe repercussions for Narsinghanand have unfolded in multiple regions, including Jammu, Rajouri, Doda, Bhadarwa, and Kishtwar.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the demonstrations were organized by various Islamic organizations which have called for the immediate arrest and execution of Narsinghanand. Protesters in Rajouri were particularly vocal, marching through the main streets and chanting slogans against the Hindu priest, underscoring the depth of their outrage.

In Jammu’s Gujjar Nagar and other affected areas, similar scenes unfolded with protesters rallying for swift and decisive action against Narsinghanand, whose comments have ignited communal tensions. The Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Personal Law Board, along with other community groups, has labeled the remarks as “highly provocative and blasphemous.”

Muhammad Tajamul Islam, secretary of the Board, expressed the sentiments of the community, stating, “The remarks have hurt the sentiments of Muslims globally. We demand strict action against him.” Calls for Narsinghanand’s arrest and prosecution have resonated throughout the protests, highlighting the community’s demand for justice and respect for religious sentiments.

Narsinghanand, known for his controversial and often inflammatory rhetoric, hails from Uttarakhand and has been a figure of contention in past incidents as well.
