ISLAMABAD: The National Weather Forecasting Centre has issued a detailed weather advisory, indicating a significant rise in temperatures in the southern half of the country while predicting rain and thunderstorms in the northern regions.
According to the Met Office, temperatures in central and southern Punjab, Sindh, and parts of Balochistan are expected to soar 4 to 7 degrees Celsius above normal on Tuesday and Wednesday. This heatwave-like condition has prompted health advisories urging the public, particularly vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the elderly, to avoid sun exposure and stay hydrated.
Simultaneously, a shallow westerly wave is projected to enter the upper parts of the country on the evening of April 8 and may persist until April 11. This weather system is expected to bring rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds to regions including Chitral, Swat, Mansehra, Murree, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. The Potohar region and northeast Punjab are also likely to experience dust and thunderstorms, with isolated hailstorms possible during this period.
The advisory further predicts dust storms and gusty winds in the plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh, which could damage loose structures such as electric poles and solar panels.
Farmers are advised to plan their crop activities, especially wheat harvesting, with the forecasted weather conditions in mind, while ensuring the safety of livestock. A judicious use of water resources is also recommended.
The National Weather Forecasting Centre encourages the public to stay informed and take necessary precautions to mitigate the potential effects of the upcoming weather conditions.
