Violent Clashes in Islamabad Lead to Police Casualties and Arrests

Islamabad: Recent violent incidents in Islamabad, involving attacks on law enforcement personnel during a political march, have resulted in the death of one police officer and injuries to more than seventy others. The violence, characterized by assaults on both police and state property, was orchestrated by elements within a political party.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the disturbances revealed through video footage show that the assailants, disguised as political protestors, engaged in severe attacks against law enforcement officials. Police Constable Abdul Hameed Shah was among those targeted; he was kidnapped, severely tortured, and later died from his injuries in the hospital.

The clashes also led to the recovery of tear gas shells, masks, slingshots, pebbles, and stones, indicating premeditated violence by the rioters. Additionally, in a significant development, authorities detained twenty-two police officials from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and two Counter-Terrorism Department personnel who were reportedly coerced into joining the march in civilian clothes.
