Imphal, A violent clash in Manipur, India, resulted in the death of a Village Defence Volunteer (VDV) and critical injuries to four others. The incident occurred in a troubled area of the state, underscoring the ongoing unrest in the region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the gunfight involved a VDV armed individual and a guerrilla group. The confrontation took place between the eastern edge of Imphal, the state capital, and the Kangpokpi district. The injured were promptly taken to a hospital in Imphal for treatment. Among the wounded, one individual suffered bomb shrapnel injuries to the face, while another was hit in the thigh, as reported by a police officer.

This violent episode highlights the fragile security situation in Manipur, which has been struggling to recover from the violence that erupted in May 2023. The unrest was a response to Indian hegemony in the region, leading to heightened tensions and conflict.

In a separate but related incident, an Indian paramilitary head constable, Rohtas Kumar, reportedly died of cardiac arrest at Chennai airport. These events collectively paint a picture of a region grappling with both conflict and the personal toll on those involved in maintaining law and order.
