Uzbekistan Commends Pakistan’s Efforts in Regional Integration


ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its ties with Uzbekistan, emphasizing the importance of shared history, culture, and mutual trust in their bilateral relationship.



According to Radio Pakistan, President Zardari made these remarks during a meeting with Alisher Tukhtaev, the Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Pakistan. The President acknowledged the positive direction of the countries’ relations and extended warm greetings to Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. He highlighted the necessity for increased bilateral trade through diversification and improved market access, as well as the implementation of trade facilitation mechanisms. Additionally, he encouraged stronger business-to-business connections and investment in crucial sectors.



President Zardari emphasized the role of connectivity in regional economic integration, noting Pakistan’s strategic position in providing access to warm waters through the Gwadar and Karachi ports. He expressed his support for the Trans-Afghan Railway Project and stressed the importance of regional peace and stability in achieving shared economic goals.



Ambassador Tukhtaev expressed gratitude for the warm reception and reiterated Uzbekistan’s dedication to enhancing relations with Pakistan. He praised Pakistan’s contribution to regional integration and economic connections and relayed Uzbekistan’s appreciation for Pakistan’s efforts in promoting peace regionally and globally. The ambassador also mentioned President Mirziyoyev’s invitation for President Zardari to visit Uzbekistan, with preparations for the visit to be finalized later this year.
