US-Iran Technical Talks Under Islamabad Memorandum to Initiate Regional Peace: PM


Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif announced that technical level talks between Iran and the United States, conducted under the ‘Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding,’ are set to initiate a new era of peace, stability, and prosperity in the region. This announcement was made alongside visiting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Islamabad. The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction that a potential conflict, which could have affected the entire region, has been averted.



According to Radio Pakistan, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the deep-rooted ties between Pakistan and Iran, highlighting their shared history, faith, and culture. He acknowledged the Iranian leadership’s trust in Pakistan to mediate the peace process and thanked Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Ali Khamenei for his guidance during the crisis. The Prime Minister also praised the unity and resilience of the Iranian people throughout the challenging period.



Sharif commended the Iranian and US delegations for their constructive participation in the talks held in Switzerland. He also recognized the support of other nations, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Egypt, in achieving progress. The efforts of Pakistan’s military leadership and Deputy Prime Minister were also acknowledged for their roles in the mediation process.



Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian echoed the sentiments of brotherhood between Pakistan and Iran, appreciating Pakistan’s role in facilitating discussions for regional stability. He stressed the importance of dialogue and cooperation in achieving peace and security in the region. Pezeshkian also highlighted the constructive meetings with Pakistani leaders, which discussed regional developments and bilateral relations, and expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended during the visit.
