New York: The United Nations General Assembly has unanimously adopted a resolution led by Pakistan on “Access to Assistive Technology,” marking a significant step towards enhancing global access to essential assistive devices. This resolution aims to place assistive technology within a broader framework of development and inclusion, addressing its crucial role in education, employment, health, social protection, and societal participation.

According to Radio Pakistan, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, introduced the resolution, highlighting its comprehensive approach to ensuring sustainable access to quality and affordable assistive technology. The resolution encourages the development of national strategies and priority lists for assistive products, promotes research and innovation, and advocates for improved data collection and procurement systems. Additionally, it underscores the importance of involving individuals who use and benefit from assistive technology in the decision-making process.
