UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to Begin Official Visit to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is set to begin a three-day official visit to Pakistan tomorrow, marking a significant moment in Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement with the UN.

According to Radio Pakistan, Guterres is visiting at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar. During his visit, he is scheduled to hold meetings with key Pakistani leaders, including the President, Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, and the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces.

The agenda for Guterres’ visit includes a stop at the headquarters of the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) and a briefing at the National Disaster Management Authority. These engagements aim to underscore Pakistan’s initiatives towards multilateralism, disaster preparedness, and early warning systems.

The visit presents an opportunity to reaffirm Pakistan’s ongoing cooperation with the United Nations and to discuss both regional and international developments. It also serves to recognize the UN Secretary-General’s leadership in promoting global peace and development.
