Islamabad: Pakistan, in collaboration with South Korea, is set to host a two-day United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Meeting beginning today. This event serves as a precursor to the main UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Meeting scheduled to take place in Berlin, Germany, next month.

The Islamabad meeting will feature a range of panel discussions aimed at addressing the future of peacekeeping. Key topics on the agenda include the evolving challenges faced by peacekeeping operations and how technology can enhance the safety and efficacy of these missions. Additionally, the role of regional and cross-regional organizations in supporting UN peace operations will be examined. The discussions will also focus on the effective performance of peacekeepers and an integrated approach for achieving sustainable and durable peace.

This preparatory meeting offers an opportunity for Pakistan to underscore its longstanding commitment to United Nations peacekeeping efforts. As a leading troop-contributing country, Pakistan has deployed a substantial number of peacekeepers, totaling 235,000 personnel across 48 UN missions.

The contributions have not come without sacrifice; 181 Pakistani peacekeepers have lost their lives in the line of duty, serving the cause of international peace and security.
