Islamabad: Pakistan, in collaboration with the Republic of Korea, is set to co-host the Third United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Preparatory Meeting at the Centre for International Peace and Stability at the National University of Sciences and Technology. The event, scheduled for April 15-16, 2025, will focus on enhancing peacekeeping operations through technology and integrated strategies.

The meeting aims to lay groundwork for the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial in Berlin, Germany, which will occur on May 13-14, 2025. This biennial event gathers foreign and defense ministers to discuss improvements in peacekeeping efforts. High-ranking officials from Pakistan and the UN, including Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, and Atul Khare, Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support, are expected to attend the Islamabad event.

The two-day meeting will include panel discussions on the future of peacekeeping. Topics will address challenges in operations, the integration of technology to improve safety and effectiveness, countering threats to peacekeepers, and the support role of regional organizations. The discussions will also cover peacekeepers’ performance and the importance of an integrated approach for lasting peace.

Pakistan will use this platform to emphasize its commitment to United Nations peacekeeping missions as a major contributor of troops. Historically, the country has deployed 235,000 peacekeepers across 48 UN missions, with 181 losing their lives in service to global peace.

Hosting the Preparatory Meeting underscores Pakistan’s ongoing dedication to UN peacekeeping and its role in promoting international peace and security, aligning with the principles of the UN Charter.
