RAWALPINDI: A U.S. Afghanistan War Commission delegation, led by Co-Chairs Shamila N. Chaudhary and Dr. Colin F. Jackson, met with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Monday. The meeting was held as part of the delegation’s review of the United States’ 20-year involvement in Afghanistan.

According to Radio Pakistan, the discussions between the delegation and Pakistan’s military leadership centered on mutual interests, including Pakistan’s support, the regional security environment, and developments in Afghanistan. The dialogue aimed to provide insights relevant to the commission’s ongoing work.

Field Marshal Munir shared Pakistan’s perspective on the security dynamics that influenced the conflict in Afghanistan and highlighted the challenges faced by Pakistan during the protracted conflict. He emphasized the significance of integrating the regional perspective and Pakistan’s experience in assessing the strategic, diplomatic, and operational aspects of the conflict.

The delegation recognized Pakistan’s longstanding role and sacrifices during the Afghanistan conflict and expressed appreciation for its persistent efforts in contributing to regional peace and stability.
