Islamabad: The Tokyo Foundation, through the “READ JAPAN PROJECT,” has donated approximately 100 books to Bahria University in Islamabad, aiming to enhance the global understanding of Japan through literature. During a ceremony held at the university, the Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan, H.E. Mr. AKAMATSU Shuichi, participated in the handover of the books, which cover various aspects of Japan’s history, politics, economy, security, and culture.

According to Embassy of Japan In Pakistan, the event marked Ambassador Akamatsu’s first visit to the Islamabad Campus of Bahria University, where he engaged in discussions with the university’s Rector, Vice Admiral Abid Hameed HI (M), about potential future collaborations. The book donation, administered by the Tokyo Foundation, is part of a broader initiative to deepen cultural ties and understanding between Japan and other nations.

The selection of English-language books aims to provide students and faculty with insights into Japan’s socio-economic development and culture. Ambassador Akamatsu expressed his hope that these resources would inspire Bahria University students to become “bridges of knowledge” between Japan and Pakistan, especially as the two countries approach the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

Rear Admiral Naeem Sarwar SI (M), Director General of Islamabad Campus, Bahria University, extended gratitude to the Nippon Foundation and the Embassy of Japan. He underscored the importance of such contributions in fostering educational and cultural exchanges, which are vital for strengthening the bilateral relationship between Japan and Pakistan.

The “READ JAPAN PROJECT,” initiated by the Nippon Foundation in 2008, continues to promote the understanding of Japan by distributing related books in English to academic institutions worldwide.
