Tarigami Rejects Dhankhar’s Article 370 Claim, Terms Remark Distortion of Facts

Srinagar: Community Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) senior leader, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has contradicted the claims of Indian Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar wherein he asserted that Dr. B R Ambedkar refused to draft Article 370.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, Tarigami termed the claim a blatant distortion of historical facts. Taking to micro-blogging site X, Tarigami stated that Omar Abdullah’s assertion that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar refused to draft Article 370 is without basis. He mentioned that Ambedkar’s extensive writings, including his book “Pakistan or the Partition of India,” do not reference such a refusal.

Tarigami further clarified that the credit for drafting Article 370 belongs to Gopalaswami Ayyangar, a member of the seven-person drafting committee responsible for formulating the Indian Constitution.

He elaborated that Article 370 was introduced in the Constituent Assembly on October 17, 1949, initially adopted as Article 306A. Tarigami also mentioned that Dhankhar’s claims regarding foreign direct investment (FDI) do not align with the ground realities.
