Islamabad: Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain has emphasized the importance of implementing structural reforms and revising the tax system in the livestock sector to better support farmers and ensure product affordability.
According to Radio Pakistan, during a pre-budget consultation in Islamabad, the Minister highlighted that livestock constitutes nearly sixty percent of the agriculture sector, offering substantial potential for enhancing domestic nutrition and boosting export opportunities. He proposed that easing the tax regime could lead to increased production and revenue.
Rana Tanveer suggested that reducing the General Sales Tax on milk is feasible and that initiatives such as pilot projects for pasteurization and the creation of safe milk cities are being considered. He underscored the importance of improving milk quality and formalizing the sector as key priorities for the future.
