Islamabad: The Ambassador of Sweden to Pakistan, Ms. Alexandra Berg von Linde, met with Dr. Musadik Malik, the Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, in Islamabad, where they discussed the global climate situation and its ramifications. The meeting marked a potential collaboration between the two nations on climate-related challenges.

According to Press Information Department, the Ambassador congratulated Dr. Malik on his invitation to the Arctic Circle Assembly, highlighting the need for international cooperation in addressing climate issues. Dr. Malik underscored the importance of partnerships among countries affected by glacial melt, including those in the Arctic and Himalayan regions, to advance research and policy responses to climate change.

The Ambassador shared Sweden’s approach to climate action, emphasizing the role of the private sector. She mentioned that Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken (SEB), a Swedish bank, is considering establishing a multi-country fund in Pakistan for water, infrastructure, and energy projects. The fund aims to reduce investment risks and support sustainable development, with plans to collaborate with the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The Ambassador sought the Ministry’s assistance in coordinating this initiative.

Dr. Malik expressed interest in the proposal and suggested a meeting between SEB and the Ministry to explore the collaboration further, noting Pakistan’s potential for climate-focused investments.
