Supreme Court of Pakistan Engages in Judicial Cooperation at Samarkand Congress


Islamabad: A delegation from the Supreme Court of Pakistan, including Hon’ble Mr. Justice Irfan Saadat Khan and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Naeem Akhter Afghan, participated in the 7th Congress of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions (AACC) in Samarkand, Republic of Uzbekistan. The Congress convened senior judicial representatives from Asia and other jurisdictions to discuss the integration of technology and artificial intelligence in the justice system.



According to Press Information Department, the Congress highlighted themes such as judicial independence, human rights, the rule of law, and digital transformation. The event also included meetings of the Association’s Secretaries General and Board Members, focusing on enhancing judicial cooperation and institutional exchange. Hon’ble Mr. Justice Irfan Saadat Khan delivered welcome remarks and the delegation discussed Pakistan’s initiatives in technology and innovation aimed at improving the justice system.



The Congress concluded with the adoption of the Samarkand Declaration, which emphasized the importance of the Constitution, judicial independence, and human rights, while acknowledging the role of digital technologies in promoting transparency and access to justice. The Declaration stressed that artificial intelligence should support, not replace, the independent judgment of judges.



The Supreme Court of Pakistan’s involvement in the Congress underscores its dedication to fostering international judicial cooperation and advancing responsible innovation in the judicial process.
