Islamabad: Professor Khurshid Ahmed, a prominent advocate for the Kashmir freedom movement and a distinguished scholar, passed away in the United Kingdom today.

Renowned for his unwavering support for the cause, Professor Khurshid Ahmed was regarded as a guiding light for the Mujahideen and the people of Kashmir. His contributions have left a significant imprint on the movement, and his absence will be profoundly felt in both Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Born on March 23, 1932, Professor Khurshid pursued his academic journey in economics, earning a PhD from the University of Leicester, UK, with a focus on Islamic economics. His expertise and influence were pivotal during the period of Pakistan’s Islamization under General Zia-ul-Haq in the 1980s.

In recognition of his extensive contributions, Professor Khurshid was honored with Pakistan’s highest civil award, the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, in 2011, and the King Faisal International Prize for Service to Islam in 1990.
