Srinagar, The 61st anniversary of the passing of Mirwaiz Moulana Ateequllah Shah, a revered religious scholar and former president of Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam, was observed with reverence and respect at the institution’s premises. The day was marked by tributes and remembrances for his contributions to education and societal reform.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the event was attended by the faculty, staff, and students of Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam, who honored Mirwaiz Ateequllah Shah for his pivotal role in developing the institution and his broader impact on the community. Under his leadership, the institution flourished, producing notable professionals in various fields who have significantly contributed to Kashmir’s reputation in the sciences and humanities.
The leadership of Mirwaiz Ateequllah Shah began shortly after he became the General Secretary of Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam in 1899. Following the death of Mirwaiz Ahmadullah Shah in 1931, he assumed the presidency of the institution, dedicating his life to its advancement and the betterment of society. His tenure is described as a golden period for the Anjuman, during which he also guided the community through challenging times in both political and religious spheres.
His efforts were not only limited to educational reforms but also included significant contributions to social issues and accessible spiritual guidance. The Anjuman recognizes his lifelong dedication to the welfare of the people and his enduring legacy in the realms of education and social reform.
The anniversary was also marked by a special Qur’an recitation ceremony at the Islamia Oriental College, where participants paid their respects to the late Mirwaiz, remembering him as a scholar and a spiritual guide who touched the lives of many.
