Colombo: Sri Lankan authorities have detained 12 Indian nationals in a targeted operation against cybercrime, conducted in the central region of the island nation.

According to Kashmir Media Service, The arrests occurred in Halloluwa, Kandy, around 120 km east of Colombo, where the group was reportedly involved in sophisticated cyber activities. The Sri Lankan police’s Crime Investigations Unit from Kandy seized a significant amount of electronic equipment during the raid, including 22 desktop computers, four laptops, over 50 advanced cellular phones, eleven ATM cards, among other items.

The investigation disclosed that the suspects had been residing in a rented house, for which they paid Rs 300,000 per month, purportedly as a base for their illicit operations.
