Sports as a Catalyst for Development and Unity, Says Prime Minister

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the critical role sports play in national development, youth empowerment, and fostering international unity.

In a statement marking the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, the Prime Minister underscored Pakistan’s commitment to supporting sports as a vehicle for positive change and breaking down barriers. He highlighted the country’s solidarity with the global community in advancing these ideals.

Prime Minister Sharif stated that sports are instrumental in promoting national progress and empowering the youth while enhancing Pakistan’s global identity. Consequently, the government has prioritized sports as a key component of its development strategy.

To support this agenda, measures such as the establishment of the Arshad Nadeem/Shehbaz Sharif High-Performance Academy have been initiated. These efforts aim to offer scientifically-based training, financial assistance, and modern facilities to athletes.

He reiterated Pakistan’s ambition to emerge as a hub for sports and tourism in the region. The country plans to achieve this by hosting nationwide training camps and organizing the 14th South Asian Games in 2026.
