Sindh Revenue Board Achieves Record Arrears Recovery Amid Fiscal Reforms Push

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has reviewed the performance of the Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) and set a roadmap for its future, emphasizing its key role in the province’s fiscal recovery for FY 2025-26. The SRB demonstrated significant revenue growth, notably in arrears recovery, which positions it as a vital component of Sindh’s financial stability.

According to Chief Minister Sindh, the SRB recovered an unprecedented Rs 9.5 billion in arrears, contributing to a total collection of Rs 34.86 billion in February 2026. This marks a 41 percent increase compared to the Rs 24.664 billion collected in February 2025. The cumulative revenue for the July-February period reached Rs 225.653 billion, a 24 percent rise from the previous year’s Rs 182.605 billion.

The review meeting at CM House was attended by key officials, including Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah and Chairman SRB Wasif Memon. The meeting also highlighted the SRB’s historic collections of Rs 306.6 billion in 2024-25, with June 2025 recording the highest monthly collection in the board’s history.

During the meeting, major revenue-contributing sectors were identified, with Ports and Terminals, Telecommunication, and Banking among the top contributors. Emerging sectors such as Software and IT consultancy services and goods transportation also showed exceptional growth.

The SRB’s regional offices, particularly in Hyderabad and Sukkur, demonstrated strong performance, contributing significantly to the overall revenue growth. The meeting emphasized the importance of digitalization and compliance measures, with Rs 48.42 billion collected through withholding agents in FY 2024-25.

Institutional reforms, including the establishment of an Intelligence, Investigation and Prosecution Wing, were also discussed. Chief Minister Shah commended the SRB’s performance and stressed the need to expand the tax base and improve enforcement against tax evasion, leveraging modern technology for better compliance and taxpayer facilitation.
