Karachi: Spokesperson for the Mayor of Karachi and Parliamentary Leader of the Pakistan People’s Party in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Karamullah Waqasi, has declared the ongoing development initiatives in Karachi as crucial steps towards transforming the city’s infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for its residents. According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, these projects, under the leadership of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, are part of a broader vision to address the city’s traffic and infrastructure challenges.
Waqasi emphasized that the Sindh government is actively implementing large-scale measures to improve the road infrastructure, traffic systems, drainage networks, and public transport facilities. The Chief Minister’s review of ten major infrastructure and road development projects, valued at over Rs10 billion, underscores the government’s commitment to prioritizing Karachi’s development. Authorities have been instructed to ensure timely completion, maintain construction quality, and adopt long-term urban planning strategies.
Highlighting key projects, Waqasi mentioned the Power House Choragi Flyover and the Four-K Choragi Flyover, which are expected to significantly ease traffic congestion. Additionally, he spoke about a Rs600 million rehabilitation project linking Clifton Blocks 1 to 5 with Marine Drive Road, aiming to modernize Karachi’s coastal infrastructure. Further projects include the road construction and upgradation from Football Stadium Baldia to Shahrah-e-Orangi and the rehabilitation of roads connecting Gulzar-e-Hijri with the M-9 Motorway.
The rehabilitation and beautification of Shahrah-e-Faisal service roads are expected to reduce traffic pressure significantly. Furthermore, expansion and rehabilitation projects on Haji Camp Road, the link road from Jinnah Avenue, and Haji Ibrahim Isa Road are set to facilitate urban and freight traffic.
Waqasi praised the efforts of the Sindh Local Government Minister and Senior Sindh Minister in implementing a comprehensive urban development strategy, focusing on road construction, drainage, sewerage, traffic management, and urban beautification. In the transport sector, the Sindh government is expanding the Peoples Bus Service routes and introducing new initiatives like pink buses for women and scooter schemes.
Waqasi concluded by highlighting the imminent opening of Shahrah-e-Bhutto and the ongoing Red Line BRT project as major developments. These efforts, he noted, reflect the PPP’s commitment to public service and infrastructure development under the vision of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
