KARACHI: The condition of a female camel, subjected to severe torture in Tharparkar, has stabilized following medical intervention, and the animal is now able to stand, walk, eat, and drink without significant difficulty. According to Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah has instructed the Livestock and Fisheries Department to provide the best veterinary care and ensure continuous monitoring until the camel fully recovers.

The chief minister acted upon a detailed report from Secretary Livestock and Fisheries Kazim Jatoi, highlighting the 13-year-old camel’s severe injuries, including a completely ruptured right eye. Expressing concern, Shah emphasized the need for legal action against those responsible, stating that animal cruelty is intolerable. Deputy Commissioner Tharparkar Haleem Jagirani reported a personal visit to the village, noting the camel’s improved condition. SSP Tharparkar Mr. Arif Aziz confirmed the arrest of two suspects following an FIR at Khensar Police Station.

A report by the Directorate of Animal Husbandry, Sindh, revealed the camel suffered multiple injuries and stress-related inflammation, allegedly inflicted with blunt objects. The owner claimed the animal was confined and abused by a neighbor, delaying the report due to alleged threats. The veterinary team initiated immediate treatment, including wound care and nutritional support.

The chief minister directed the Livestock Department to continue medical care and provide regular updates. He reiterated the Sindh government’s commitment to animal welfare and justice for the perpetrators. A special veterinary team is conducting daily examinations to monitor recovery, with permanent vision loss in the right eye confirmed and ongoing assessment of the left eye. Shah praised the Livestock and Fisheries Department’s prompt response, urging the provision of necessary resources for the camel’s rehabilitation.
