Lahore: The Women Development Department (WDD) of the Government of Punjab has initiated the registration process for its SheThreads program in Lahore, aimed at equipping rural women with skills in the textile industry and enhancing their employment opportunities.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the SheThreads initiative plans to train 2,500 women by June 2027, with 1,150 women expected to complete their training during 2025-26. The training, held at Shahkam Industries (Pvt) Ltd on Defence Road, off Multan Road, offers courses for industrial stitching machine operators and apparel supervisors. The program provides three months of free training, combining practical and classroom instruction, and includes a monthly stipend of Rs15,000 for participants, which covers a transportation allowance. Additionally, SheThreads offers employment placement support to help graduates secure positions in the textile sector.
Eligible applicants are required to be rural women aged 18 to 45, possess a Punjab domicile, and have at least a matriculation qualification. To register, candidates should visit Shahkam Industries (Pvt) Ltd in Lahore and submit an application along with their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) and domicile documents for screening. Shortlisted individuals will need to sign an affidavit before final enrollment.
The WDD has requested assistance from the district administration to engage eligible women from nearby rural and peri-urban areas and disseminate registration information through assistant commissioners, union council secretaries, and relevant district offices. By linking industry-oriented training with employment placement support, the SheThreads program aims to empower women with marketable skills and improve their prospects for sustainable livelihoods in the textile industry.
