Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has approved the formation of a task force dedicated to advancing waste-to-energy production in the country. The newly established task force is charged with developing a national waste-to-energy policy and encouraging private sector involvement while laying out a strategy and framework to facilitate the growth of waste-to-energy projects.

According to Radio Pakistan, the task force will be led by Federal Minister for the Power Division, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, serving as its convener. It will undertake a comprehensive review of the current framework for waste-to-energy production in Pakistan, examine international best practices, and identify obstacles within the legal, regulatory, financial, and operational domains of the sector.

The task force is also tasked with recommending legislative and regulatory reforms pertinent to waste-to-energy. Additionally, it aims to propose measures to boost investment, improve coordination, and ensure the successful implementation of waste-to-energy initiatives nationwide.
