Arusha, Tanzania: Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti called for the establishment of responsive, accountable, inclusive, and effective institutions to foster public trust and global peace during his address at the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). He emphasized the importance of good governance and equal opportunities as fundamental elements for strengthening democracy and empowering communities.

According to Senate of Pakistan, Senator Chishti’s speech was delivered under the theme “Enhancing Good Governance and Empowering Communities Through Inclusivity, Trust and Opportunities for All.” He spoke on behalf of Pakistan’s Parliament and its citizens, promoting a message of peace, understanding, and parliamentary cooperation.

Senator Chishti outlined several reform initiatives undertaken by Pakistan under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. These reforms aim to enhance transparency, equity, and public empowerment through economic, institutional, and governance measures. He also highlighted the critical role of parliamentary committees, caucuses, and public engagement in advocating for accountability and inclusive decision-making.

Addressing broader global concerns, Senator Chishti expressed apprehension over the increasing trust deficit, climate crisis, violations of national sovereignty, and neglect of international law. He warned that using shared resources, such as water and trade, as tools for coercion could destabilize international relations and cooperation.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s dedication to global peace and cooperation, Senator Chishti noted the country’s diplomatic efforts, including the Islamabad Accord and the Makkah Defence Pact. He concluded by stressing that sustainable development and prosperity necessitate mutual respect, inclusive institutions, and international cooperation, urging parliamentarians to collaboratively strive for a just, inclusive, and peaceful world.
