Karachi: The Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat, chaired by Senator Rana Mahmoodul Hassan, convened at the Sindh Secretariat Building in Karachi to address issues related to petroleum regulation and significant infrastructure projects, including the K-IV water supply scheme and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) initiatives.
According to Senate of Pakistan, the meeting featured a detailed briefing by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), with discussions focusing on petroleum pricing mechanisms and regulatory frameworks. Members, including Senators Saleem Mandviwalla and Amir Waliuddin Chishti, expressed concerns over petroleum price hikes and their impact on the public, seeking assurances on supply continuity and pricing justifications.
The Committee also scrutinized the progress of the K-IV Water Supply Project and the Karachi Red Bus Transit corridor, both overseen by NESPAK. Delays and planning gaps in these projects were highlighted, prompting the Committee to request further detailed briefings and involve additional authorities for comprehensive reviews in upcoming sessions.
