Senate Committee Passes Key Bills on Abandoned Properties and Civil Servants


Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat, under the leadership of Senator Rana Mahmood ul Hassan, convened at the Parliament House. The Committee approved several legislative measures, including “The Abandoned Properties (Management) (Amendment) Bill, 2024” and “The Civil Servants (Amendment) Bill, 2024,” following detailed briefings and endorsements from relevant authorities.



According to a statement by Senate of Pakistan, the Committee, after extensive discussions, also passed the Government Bill titled “The Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA) (Amendment) Bill, 2025.” The Committee addressed a Calling Attention Notice by Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri concerning the United Nation’s report on flood-induced destruction in Sindh and Balochistan, directing the National Disaster Management Authority to resolve related queries in the next meeting.



Further discussions included a briefing from the Managing Director of the Public Procurement and Regulatory Authority (PPRA), with recommendations to enhance representation across Pakistan’s provinces for improved transparency. The Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation highlighted its efforts to promote Pakistan as a tourist destination despite operational challenges due to administrative devolution.



The Committee also received an update from the Chairman of the Special Technology Zones Authority on the establishment of 18 zones across Pakistan. The Committee recommended the creation of additional zones and proposed a visit to one of the existing zones to evaluate its impact.
