Islamabad: A search and rescue operation is underway to locate members of an international mountaineering team missing after an avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan’s Karakoram mountain range. The bodies of four of the ten missing climbers have been recovered, authorities said.
According to Radio Pakistan, the missing mountaineers are from the United States, Nepal, Oman, and Pakistan. Among them is Pakistani climber Sohail Sakhi. The rescue teams are working under challenging conditions in their efforts to find the remaining missing climbers.
The avalanche has highlighted the risks associated with climbing in the Karakoram range, which is known for its treacherous conditions. Broad Peak, the 12th highest mountain in the world, is a popular destination for climbers, but the recent incident has raised concerns about safety measures and emergency response capabilities in the area.
Local authorities are coordinating with international rescue teams to expedite the search efforts. The situation remains critical as time is of the essence in locating the missing climbers.
