Save the Children and Pakistan’s Child Rights Caucus Explore New Collaborations


Islamabad: The Acting Country Director of Save the Children, Mr. Raza Hussain Qazi, met with Dr. Nikhat Shakeel Khan, the Convenor of the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights (PCCR), in Islamabad to discuss potential collaborations aimed at enhancing child rights initiatives across Pakistan.



According to a statement by National Assembly of Pakistan, the meeting, held at the Parliament House, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the PCCR and newly established provincial child rights caucuses in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Dr. Khan also mentioned ongoing efforts to establish a similar caucus in Sindh.



Dr. Khan outlined the vision of the Honorable Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, to create child rights caucuses across provincial and legislative assemblies. She shared plans for consultation visits to the assemblies of Balochistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) with the goal of forming these caucuses by February 2025.



Mr. Qazi expressed support for these initiatives, praising the efforts to strengthen child rights advocacy. Dr. Khan thanked Save the Children for backing the Young Citizen Internship Programme 2024 and looked forward to continued partnership in the coming year.



In addition to these discussions, the meeting addressed legislative measures needed to mitigate climate-induced impacts on children, highlighting the necessity of coordinated efforts to safeguard children’s rights and welfare.
