Islamabad: Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister for Climate Change, has emphasized the integral connection between gender equality and environmental sustainability, asserting that empowering women is crucial for achieving a sustainable future. She highlighted the pivotal role women play in driving environmental change and fostering green solutions.

According to Press Information Department, in her message on International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on March 8, Romina Alam underscored the contributions of women in tackling the global climate crisis. She noted the disproportionate impact of climate change on women, especially those in vulnerable communities, and praised their leadership in climate adaptation and mitigation efforts.

Romina Alam emphasized that women are actively involved in managing resources, advocating for policy changes, and developing innovative solutions to environmental challenges in Pakistan. She highlighted the government’s commitment to incorporating gender-responsive approaches into climate strategies and ensuring women’s active participation in climate governance.

The government, she stated, is focused on enhancing access to climate finance and resources for women-led initiatives through programs like the Women’s Empowerment in Climate Change Adaptation Program. Romina Alam also acknowledged the global leadership of women in climate action, stressing the need to eliminate barriers that prevent their full participation.
