Romina Khurshid Advocates for Dialogue Platforms to Address Pakistan’s Climate Challenges


Islamabad: Coordinator to the Prime Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Romina Khurshid Alam, has called for the creation of public dialogue platforms to tackle Pakistan’s climate challenges. During a meeting with Sikander Rashid Choudry, Executive Member of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), Ms. Romina stressed the importance of collaboration between regulatory bodies, the government, and media to promote sustainable practices.



According to a statement by Press Information Department, the meeting focused on the need for cross-sectoral cooperation to address environmental issues such as water scarcity and rising temperatures. Ms. Romina emphasized the media’s critical role in raising awareness and influencing both citizens and policymakers to take action against climate change.



The discussion also included plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Climate Change and PEMRA. This agreement aims to enhance cooperation in raising awareness and advocating for sustainable practices through media channels across Pakistan.



Ms. Romina highlighted the government’s commitment to climate action and the necessity of engaging all societal sectors in environmental sustainability. She pointed out the existential threat posed by climate change and the urgent need for media involvement in educating the public and promoting environmental stewardship.



The meeting explored various topics, including green energy advocacy, waste management, water conservation, and biodiversity protection. Both parties agreed on the importance of comprehensive media campaigns and public service messages to inform citizens about sustainable practices and climate adaptation measures.



Concluding the meeting, Ms. Romina reaffirmed the government’s dedication to tackling climate change. She emphasized the value of collaborations like the one with PEMRA to amplify their message and broaden the reach of their climate initiatives, aiming for a more informed and environmentally conscious society in Pakistan.
