Karachi: Remittances sent by overseas Pakistanis reached an unprecedented $4.1 billion in March 2025, setting a new record for the country. This significant milestone was confirmed by the State Bank of Pakistan, marking a 37.3 percent increase compared to the same month last year and a 29.8 percent rise from the previous month.

The surge in remittances reflects strong support from the Pakistani diaspora, amid ongoing economic reforms and growing confidence in the country’s financial system. This increase in remittances is a critical component of Pakistan’s economic strategy, providing essential foreign exchange reserves.

During the first nine months of the fiscal year, from July to March 2025, remittances totaled $28 billion, representing a 33.2 percent increase compared to the $21 billion received during the same period the previous year.

The record inflow in March was primarily driven by contributions from key expatriate communities. Saudi Arabia led the way with $987.3 million, followed by the United Arab Emirates with $842.1 million, the United Kingdom with $683.9 million, and the United States contributing $419.5 million.

This development underlines the vital role that overseas Pakistanis play in supporting their home country’s economy, especially during times of economic transition.
