New Delhi: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has voiced concerns over the recently passed Waqf Amendment Bill, asserting that it targets Muslims and sets a dangerous precedent for future actions against other minority communities.
In a post on X, Gandhi referenced an article from the Kashmir Media Service, stating that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has now turned its attention to Catholic Church land following the bill’s passage. “I had said that the Waqf Bill attacks Muslims now, but sets a precedent to target other communities in the future,” he wrote. He further noted, “It didn’t take long for the RSS to turn its attention to Christians.”
Gandhi emphasized the importance of the Constitution as a protective measure for all communities, urging a collective effort to defend it from such legislative actions.
In a related comment, Congress leader KC Venugopal highlighted an article noting that the Catholic Church has surpassed the Waqf Board in terms of landholdings. “As predicted, first one minority targeted, now onto the next,” Venugopal remarked, reflecting broader concerns within the Congress party about the implications of the bill.
