Islamabad: A comprehensive Quality Assurance (QA) Review of Computing Programmes in Sindh’s public and private universities has been successfully completed, following directives from the Prime Minister. This initiative aims to enhance the quality, relevance, and effectiveness of higher education in Pakistan.

According to Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, the review encompassed computing-related academic programmes offered by a variety of institutions. These were categorized into three clusters: Cluster-I included Emaan Institute of Management & Sciences, ILMA University, Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University, Lyari, and Millennium Institute of Technology & Entrepreneurship. Cluster-II comprised Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam, University of Sufism & Modern Sciences, and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences. Cluster-III included Begum Nusrat Bhutto Women University and University of Larkano.

The QA Review evaluated programme-level practices against eight recognized quality assurance benchmarks, such as Programme Mission, Objectives and Outcomes, Curriculum Design and Organisation, and Institutional Support and Facilities, among others. Expert panels scrutinized academic documentation, governance, curricula, laboratory facilities, and more, while engaging extensively with university stakeholders to assess programme implementation and effectiveness.

The review acknowledged substantial efforts by universities to enhance computing education quality and align programmes with evolving academic and industry needs. Institutions showcased commitment to improving educational standards and promoting student success through reforms and capacity-building initiatives.

The review’s findings aim to assist universities in strengthening academic systems and quality enhancement. Recommendations focus on continuous improvement, outcome-based education, industry engagement, and enhanced student support services.

Representatives of the review process praised the cooperation of participating universities and highlighted the developmental nature of quality assurance reviews, which are intended to help institutions achieve excellence rather than serve as compliance checks.

This province-wide review underscores a national commitment to advancing higher education quality and ensuring computing programmes meet emerging technological and workforce demands. The outcomes will support informed planning and the long-term development of academic programmes meeting both national and international expectations.
