LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced on Monday that the province’s low-cost housing initiative, Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar, has become a notable global standard and a source of recognition for Pakistan.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the announcement came on the occasion of World Habitat Day, where it was revealed that the initiative has once again received international recognition with Punjab being awarded the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award for the Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar project. This marks the first time in 19 years that Punjab has topped the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour rankings.
The chief minister noted that over 200,000 people have successfully obtained loans through the program in a short period, expressing confidence that the government would achieve its target of constructing 500,000 houses within five years. She emphasized the importance of the initiative in helping ordinary citizens achieve the dream of home ownership.
On World Habitat Day, Chief Minister Sharif reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing shelter to every deserving family, stating that safe, dignified, and quality housing is a fundamental right that will be ensured for all citizens.
