Lahore: Punjab Police have implemented extensive security measures for the seventh day of Muharram, deploying more than 56,800 officers and personnel to ensure the safety of 3,803 majalis and 1,375 processions throughout the province.
According to Punjab Police, under the directives of Inspector General Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, police teams across Punjab, including Lahore, remained on high alert to oversee and secure the day’s religious gatherings. The police spokesman detailed that in Lahore alone, 98 processions and 424 majalis took place, with special attention given to 45 category A majalis. Over 6,000 officers and personnel were assigned to Lahore’s events, with additional support from Traffic Police, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Special Branch, and volunteers.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has instructed Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) to personally monitor these security arrangements. He emphasized the importance of maintaining high alert status and the continuous, moment-by-moment monitoring of events through control rooms and CCTV to prevent any compromise on public safety.
