Lahore: Under the directives of IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar and the safety vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Police has significantly ramped up efforts to eradicate illegal weapons across the province.
According to Punjab Police, the intensified campaign has already resulted in the seizure of thousands of illegal firearms this year, including 993 Kalashnikovs, 2,065 guns, 425 revolvers, 26,617 pistols, 1,921 rifles, and over 176,000 bullets and cartridges. In Lahore alone, authorities have confiscated 102 Kalashnikovs, 217 guns, 41 revolvers, 424 rifles, 5,685 pistols, and more than 34,000 bullets.
Dr. Anwar emphasized the importance of maintaining public safety by targeting not only the illegal possession of arms but also addressing concerns such as aerial firing and the display of weapons on social media. He has also instructed the continual inspection and license verification of arms dealers and stressed that Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) should closely monitor the crackdown and provide weekly updates to the Central Police Officer (CPO).
