Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced that free tuberculosis (TB) medicines are being delivered directly to patients’ homes throughout the province. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to combat TB and improve public health in the region.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, in her message on World TB Day, Chief Minister Sharif emphasized the importance of eliminating TB for a healthier Punjab. She highlighted the need for timely diagnosis and effective treatment, urging increased public awareness about the disease. The provincial government is offering free diagnostic and treatment services, including medicines and PCR tests, at public hospitals.

The DOTS strategy ensures complete treatment at district and tehsil hospitals without cost. Additionally, lady health workers are actively involved in identifying cases at the household level. Sharif stated that programs are in place to deliver free medications to patients with TB, hepatitis, and heart conditions, underscoring the role of public participation in achieving health goals.

The chief minister also disclosed plans to establish special drug-resistant TB (DR-TB) centers for patients unresponsive to standard treatment. Community health workers, civil society organizations, researchers, and private healthcare institutions are contributing to timely diagnosis and sustained treatment efforts.

Sharif reaffirmed the Punjab government’s commitment to eradicating TB as part of its comprehensive public health strategy.
