Lahore: A special meeting of the Cabinet Committee for Disaster Management was held at the PDMA Head Office on Monday, chaired by Provincial Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique. The meeting focused on reviewing preparations for the monsoon rains, assessing potential flood situations, river erosion prevention, and evaluating safety plans and relief activities.

According to Punjab Police, the meeting was attended via video link by commissioners from DG Khan, Bahawalpur, Gujrat, and Gujranwala, along with deputy commissioners from Sialkot, Gujrat, Layyah, and Narowal. DG PDMA Punjab Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa provided a comprehensive briefing on the current monsoon preparations, safety measures, and flood management strategies. Ongoing rescue and relief efforts in Sheikhupura, directed by the Chief Minister of Punjab, were highlighted. Pending safety projects in several districts, including Gujrat and Muzaffargarh, were also reviewed, alongside proposed schemes to mitigate river erosion.

Khawaja Salman Rafique emphasized the government’s commitment to making Punjab flood-resilient, in line with the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He noted that rescue agencies have been equipped with advanced equipment to handle urban and river flooding effectively. Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa assured that pre- and post-disaster mechanisms are being improved, and flood relief camps have been identified in sensitive districts to ensure prompt rescue and relief efforts during emergencies.
