Lahore: A special meeting of the Cabinet Committee for Disaster Management was convened at the PDMA Head Office under the leadership of Provincial Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique. The gathering focused on monsoon preparedness, potential flood scenarios, and ongoing safety plans and relief efforts.

According to Punjab Police, commissioners from DG Khan, Bahawalpur, Gujrat, and Gujranwala participated via video link, along with deputy commissioners from Sialkot, Gujrat, Layyah, and Narowal. DG PDMA Punjab Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa provided a comprehensive briefing on flood management and safety measures. The briefing included updates on uninterrupted rescue and relief activities in Sheikhupura, directed by the Chief Minister of Punjab.

The committee reviewed pending safety projects in districts such as Gujrat, Jhelum, and Muzaffargarh, while also considering proposed schemes to prevent river erosion in Layyah and Muzaffargarh. The meeting covered ongoing and proposed measures to protect agricultural land and villages from erosion along major rivers. Additionally, emergency measures for the protective bund in Narowal were discussed.

Chairman Khawaja Salman Rafique emphasized that steps are underway to enhance flood resilience in Punjab, in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He highlighted the deployment of modern rescue equipment and praised the performance of agencies during previous floods. The meeting also addressed the provision of funds for safety works and relief activities, including Rs 1.294 billion for outstanding flood-related dues. DG PDMA Jappa outlined efforts to improve disaster mechanisms and ensure timely resource allocation, noting the completion of flood relief camp identification in sensitive districts.
