Promoting Chess Essential for Enhancing Cognitive Skills and Critical Thinking, Says PM’s Aide Romina Khurshid Alam


Islamabad: Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister, emphasized the importance of chess in enhancing cognitive skills and critical thinking, advocating for its integration into educational and cultural frameworks to promote widespread engagement in the game across Pakistan.



According to Press Information Department, speaking at the Mian Sultan Khan National Chess Championship, Alam highlighted the game’s strategic depth and its centuries-old global popularity. She pointed out that chess not only sharpens the mind but also encourages players to evaluate multiple factors and make strategic decisions under pressure, skills that are applicable in daily life.



The event, which drew over 140 participants, serves as a key platform for nurturing young talent under the government’s National Mind Sports Initiative. Alam called for the establishment of local chess clubs and the incorporation of chess into school curricula to further this cause, enhancing youth development and international representation in mind sports.
