Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued a call for a robust public awareness initiative aimed at curbing the country’s population growth, which he identified as a significant national challenge. Leading a meeting in Islamabad, he underscored the importance of integrating population control measures with national development and economic stability.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister emphasized that managing population growth and enhancing population welfare are responsibilities that should be embraced on a national scale. He announced that a meeting of the National Population Council would soon be convened to devise a comprehensive strategy aimed at promoting population welfare.
The meeting highlighted that a National Stabilization Plan for 2026-2035 is currently in development. This plan aims to provide a cohesive national framework to mitigate population growth, with a target to decrease the population growth rate from the present 2.55 percent to 1.25 percent by the year 2035.
