ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif affirmed the government’s commitment to economic reform aimed at stabilizing the country’s economy and promoting sustainable growth. This statement was made during a meeting with a World Bank delegation led by Country Director Bolormaa Amgaabazar.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the World Bank’s longstanding partnership and its significant contributions to Pakistan’s socio-economic development. He stressed that Pakistan’s constitutional federal structure and provincial autonomy are essential for national development and stability.

During the meeting, the World Bank delegation presented the report “Strengthening Fiscal Federalism in Pakistan,” discussing the evolution of fiscal federalism following significant constitutional amendments and financial awards. The report analyzed issues related to revenue, public expenditure, and federal-provincial fiscal relations, and offered policy recommendations for stronger fiscal discipline and more efficient resource utilization.

Prime Minister Sharif welcomed the World Bank’s analysis, highlighting its value for informed policymaking. He announced the formation of a high-level committee to review the recommendations with relevant stakeholders, ensuring alignment with Pakistan’s federal framework for public benefit.
