Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Commits to Deepening Ties with Central Asia

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to bolstering relations with Central Asian nations, particularly within the framework of its “Vision Central Asia” policy. This declaration came during his discussions with Tajik Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda in Dushanbe today, where they explored avenues to enhance regional connectivity and socio-economic development.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the strategic importance of regional integration in South and Central Asia. He extended an invitation to Tajikistan to utilize Karachi port for its transit trade, highlighting the potential benefits of improved transport links, such as rail and road connections between the two countries. Furthermore, he proposed hosting a regional connectivity summit to establish trade corridors that would facilitate and expand regional trade.

The meeting also celebrated the signing of the Strategic Partnership Agreement, marking a significant milestone in Pakistan-Tajikistan relations, with expectations set on opening new avenues for economic cooperation. The Prime Minister welcomed the recent initiation of international flights between the two countries, advocating for an increase in these flights to strengthen ties further.

Prime Minister Sharif also stressed the shared religious and cultural values between the people of Pakistan and Tajikistan, calling for expanded social relations and enhanced cooperation in culture, education, sports, and people-to-people contacts.
