Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Calls for Promotion of Renewable Energy Projects Amid Power Shortage


LAHORE: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed an initiative to promote renewable energy projects as a measure to address the ongoing power shortage in the country. During a meeting focused on power sector reforms, he emphasized the integration of modern technology to enhance the energy sector’s efficiency.



According to Radio Pakistan, the meeting held in Lahore underscored the need to facilitate both industrial and domestic electricity consumers. The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of ensuring an uninterrupted supply of energy to foster industrial development while stressing that the provision of facilities for domestic consumers remains a top government priority.



Additionally, Sharif called for a significant reduction in line losses through improvements in the electricity transmission system and instructed the formulation of a comprehensive strategy to stabilize electricity prices. He advocated for the promotion of digital facilities to simplify bill payments for consumers and continued strict measures to combat electricity theft. Recommendations regarding electricity consumption for domestic consumers and industries were also presented during the meeting. The Prime Minister reiterated that any reforms in the energy sector would prioritize the wider interests of the public and industry.
